That's why sweet lupins are part of our portfolio at Hanfleben.

Hanfleben Lupine: protein-rich bean from Europe

We at Hanfleben grow a digestible, low-alkaloid, non-bitter sweet lupine that is particularly suitable for consumption. Like soy, chickpeas, peanuts and peas, sweet lupins belong to the legume family and accordingly have a high protein content. Their name does not derive from the "sweet taste" but from the fact that they are "not bitter" compared to other lupine species. Among other things, we use our sweet lupins to make our hemp life lupine flour. In terms of nutritional values, sweet lupine is similar to soybeans. However, they are much more sustainable: Compared to soybeans, lupins do not have to travel halfway around the world before they can be consumed in Germany and Europe. We at Hanfleben grow our lupins in the heart of Europe. Our fields are in the Czech Republic, about ten kilometers from the German border. Our team consists of German farmers. The distances between field and manufactory are short.

Hanleben Lupine: Good for vegan, gluten-free diets

Our sweet lupins reach a height of around 60 centimetres. Their stems are light green, hairy and erect. Its flower is white and grape-like. It blooms from May to August. Our sweet lupins form densely hairy, straight pods containing four to six seeds - the lupine beans. Vegans and vegetarians in particular should take a closer look at this bean, because lupins have a high vegetable protein content (up to 48 percent) with few carbohydrates (soybeans: around 14 percent, lupins: around 5 percent) and contain all the essential amino acids. Dietary supplements to meet the body's needs are no longer necessary with this superfood from Europe. Vitamin A and B1, minerals such as potassium, calcium, magnesium and iron are also included. Gluten, on the other hand, is looked for in vain in lupins, so lupine flour is ideal for people with gluten allergies.

Hanfleben Lupine: Superfood for humans and nature

At Hanfleben, we rely on crops that can be used almost completely, contribute to environmental protection and are as easy to care for as possible. You could say: we have specialized in the regional cultivation of superfood for people and nature. Our sweet lupins fit well into our plant portfolio for food hemp and miscanthus. The lupins also have very good properties that improve the arable soil. They loosen compacted soil with their strong roots, dissolve phosphate in the soil, enrich the arable soil with up to 100 kg of nitrogen per hectare and have so-called nodule bacteria in their roots that bind the nitrogen.
